COVID-19 Update from Worldwide Logistics Group HQ – March 31

USA
All staff working from home except warehouse staff in Torrance, CA and Cranbury, NJ. Import volumes steady despite many retail orders having been delayed or cancelled.  Exports are quite busy as are cross trade shipments. All systems are working efficiently with no issues in a “work from home” model.

China
All staff have resumed normal office work practice with all government mandated testing and hygiene rules being followed. Ocean cargo volumes have gradually increased over the past three weeks but still remain quite low compared to comparable period in 2019.  Air Cargo is quite active with rates highly inflated due to shortage of space in relation to demand.

HONG KONG
Office staff levels being held at 50% with 50% of the staff working from home to promote social distancing. Cargo volume trend similar to China.

VIETNAM
70% of staff working from home. Government has imposed strict social distancing guidelines but no lock down or stay at home order. Public transportation has been suspended. Cargo volumes remain steady. All ports operating normally however most carriers have cancelled Saturday shifts.

INDIA
Stay at home order expires on April 15 and, currently, there is no indication from the India government whether or not the order will be extended. All of the WWL India staff are working at home with the exception of our supervisors at our CFS locations at Nhava Sheva, Turicorin and Delhi.

There was a small increase in shipments from last week to this week. Most Week 14 sailings were cancelled or under slow steaming to call India ports Week 15. Week 15 sailings are expected to be light. Ports are operational and customs is open but cargo movement is severely restricted due to labor shortages at ICDs, CFS locations and Indian Customs. A moratorium on charging of detention or demurage has been announced by the India government for the period March 24 through April 15 but no official confirmation or acknowledgement by shipping lines has occurred.

UAE
WWL Middle East operating at 50% office staffing level with 50% working from home in accordance with government mandate. Cargo movement is limited but functioning normally.

UK
All office staff working from home. Warehouse continues to operate with regular staffing and is quite busy in particular with re-work and pick/pack activity including many essential goods. Ports and HMRC operating normally.

We will continue to update the status of our offices and services to our clients as the coronavirus pandemic evolves. Thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. Stay well.
