COVID-19 Update from Worldwide Logistics Group HQ – March 20

As the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to spread throughout the world WWL has taken measures to protect the health and safety of our staff as well as provide the most consistent service possible to our clients. Following is an update on the situation at each of our worldwide locations:

USA
Our office staff is now working 100% from home. All systems and processes are effective with no major issues to report. Cranbury, NJ and Torrance, CA warehouses remain operational with strict hygiene rules in place and a prohibition on temporary labor. We presently have significant capacity available at both warehouses, in particular in the Cranbury warehouse. LA/Long Beach and Seattle terminals have reduced working hours of operation due to declining volumes.

CHINA
Full office operations continue. Ocean cargo moving relatively normally. Air Cargo capacity is constrained and rates have spiked dramatically as a result.

VIETNAM
Our office is still operational but all processes for remote working have been tested and are functional. We will likely move to a work from home process by next week. Travel between Cambodia and Vietnam has been suspended and cargo movement to/from Cambodia has been temporarily disrupted. We are told that governments from both countries are working on getting this resolved. Restriction on passenger flights to/from Vietnam have significantly limited cargo capacity at a time when demand is high. This has caused a spike in rates and much volatility.

INDIA
Many government guidelines have now been implemented which we are following. For example:

  • International Flights will not be permitted to land in India from March 22nd for a period of one week.
  • Senior citizens over the age of 65 years and children below the age of 10 are required to stay at home.
  • State of Maharashtra has declared all offices will be closed until March 31st.
  • Delhi National Capital Territory will also be partially closed down. Our Delhi office is working with a skeleton staff with others working from home.
  • Sunday March 22nd will be treated as “Janta Curfew” day where the government has requested all citizens to stay indoors from 7 AM to 9 PM as a means of social distancing.

UAE
There are no changes since our update earlier this week. Our office in Sharjah continues to operate normally. Remote systems have been tested and we are ready to shift to a work from home model if required.

UK
WWL UK office is now 80% work from home with only a skeleton staff in the office. The Worldwide Logistics warehouse here remains operational with strict hygiene guidelines and no temporary labor. The government announced today they are stepping in to pay 80% of company wages for furloughed staff during the closures.

We will continue to update the status of our offices and services to our clients as the coronavirus pandemic evolves. Thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. Stay well.
