As 2023 comes to a close, the expansion of the Worldwide Logistics Group network continues in Europe with the opening of Worldwide Logistics Group – Netherlands.
The Netherlands office is strategically located in Rotterdam, the busiest container port in Europe handling almost 100 ships a day.
The decision to open an office in Rotterdam is based on customer need and an increase in business to and from the Netherlands.
Since Brexit, many Worldwide Logistics Group customers split strategies and shift between the UK and Netherlands as their primary import locations.
Freight forwarding is the biggest service Worldwide Logistics Group will be offering from Rotterdam; however, the full strength of their 40+ offices will be utilized.
“Primarily we’ll be supporting our European freight forwarding customers and working in conjunction with our other European offices in Germany, Spain, Turkey and the UK,” said Tom Peacock, President of Worldwide Logistics Group. “Freight forwarding is a global business and we have many offices around the globe backing each other up.”
Rotterdam is the busiest container port in Europe, and the new office is in the heart of the port district next to shipping lines, warehouses and truckers. The Port of Rotterdam is considered to be a strategically important distribution point in Europe as it is surrounded by Europe’s highly-populated and industrialized centers – the German Ruhr district, Paris and London.
“With this central port location, we have boots on the ground at the busiest port in Europe. It’s the presence we need to serve some of our key customers,” explained Peacock.
The Rotterdam office will be run by Erik Van Ree who has extensive experience in operations, sales, pricing and management. “Erik is a well-rounded logistics professional who has experience in all aspects of supply chain management and is the perfect fit to get us off the ground in the Netherlands,” said Daniel Jakob, Worldwide Logistics Group Managing Director Europe.
Jakob has been expanding recognition of the Worldwide Logistics Group brand in the European market and said that having a presence in Rotterdam is essential due to the port location and the sheer volume of cargo that comes in and out daily.
“We have been using the Port of Rotterdam for a long time and now our customer base has grown large enough to establish a permanent office here,” explained Jakob. “Now we can more efficiently offer the global company’s full suite of services while still maintaining the high level of service we are known for.”
