Inauguration – CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin

By Robbin Dewalt

I was fortunate enough to have been invited to this historic event.  During the ceremony, speakers consisted of the Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Mr. Jacques R. Saade, Long Beach Mayor Dr. Robert Garcia and Port of Long Beach officials.  The inauguration was performed by the sponsor/godmother of the CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin Mrs. Shelley McMillon, who is also the President and CEO of Walmart Stores, Inc.  Sponsors are considered a permanent member of the ship’s crew, and are meant to bring good luck to the ship.  After the inauguration we were treated to vessel tours of this amazing ship.  From the dock to the wheel house all aspects of the ship were very impressive.

The CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin is the first vessel of its size to call a US Port including all of North America. It is equipped with the most up to date environmental technology that uses less fuel, emits less carbon dioxide, and complies with 2025 efficiency standards.

Despite being so efficient and environmentally friendly, the Benjamin Franklin boasts some impressive stats. It is longer than 4 football fields or 5.5 Airbus A380 aircraft, and is as high as a 20 story building, at 197’ tall.  It is 1306 feet long – Longer than the Aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush (332m/1090ft).  The engine is as powerful as 900 Ford Focus cars, and is coupled with a propeller to provide 21-knots thrust, equivalent to that of 11 Boeing 747-400 engines.  All of this allows the ship holds 18,000 TEU’s or 109km of containers end to end, the distance between Santa Monica, CA and Santa Barbara, CA.

Worldwide Logistics Ltd. Announces Their Immediate Offering of LCL, Warehousing, Consolidation & Various International Shipping Services to/from Europe and the US

The Worldwide Logistics Ltd. Team is very excited to announce their expansion of freight forwarding services between Europe and the US.

Worldwide Logistics Ltd. has been working diligently, collaborating with their Agent in Europe to expand their shipping services to/from Europe/US. They are proud to announce this affiliation and are looking forward to servicing all international shipping needs.

Importing and exporting are key components for many lucrative businesses. International shipping could present great business opportunities for so many, but may also seem daunting.

The process, paperwork, and regulations involved in international trade may seem intimidating. However, anyone can be a successful international shipper without getting caught up in the logistics of logistics.
That’s what a freight forwarder is for.

What is a freight forwarder?

A freight forwarder (http://worldwidelogisticsltd.com/) is a company that arranges importing and exporting of goods.

So what does that actually mean in terms of what a freight forwarder does?

What does a freight forwarder actually do?

There is a lot that goes into arranging international shipping. While the freight forwarder handles the details of international shipping, it is important to know what a freight forwarder does not do in order to understand what a freight forwarder actually does.

A freight forwarder does not actually move the freight itself.

The freight forwarder acts as an intermediary between a shipper and various transportation services such as ocean shipping on cargo ships, trucking, expedited shipping by air freight, and moving goods by rail.

A freight forwarding (http://worldwidelogisticsltd.com/) service utilizes established relationships with carriers, from air freighters and trucking companies, to rail freighters and ocean liners, in order to negotiate the best possible price to move shippers’ goods along the most economical route by working out various bids and choosing the one that best balances speed, cost, and reliability.

Freight forwarders handle the considerable logistics of shipping goods from one international destination to another, a task that would otherwise be a formidable burden for their client.

Jurisdiction: The ILWU will want to maintain what work they have now and expand if possible. Due to the focus on productivity with more output and less labor input, the ILWU will try to bring more work under their control.
